While the name Powercast might not immediately ring a bell for residential integrators, the company has been busy perfecting its power-over-distance wireless charging technology as a way to help CE pros run less cable, among other advantages.
Powercast is making its CEDIA Expo debut this year, so to find out more about the company and what it will be showing at its virtual booth, CE Pro virtually sat down with Maria Singer, marketing and sales manager, Powercast Corporation:
What is the company planning on hosting at its virtual booth this year?
“We have a lot of exciting things planned! The most exciting, in my opinion, is the launch of our wireless charging grip, which is the world’s first wirelessly rechargeable anything, but it’s a game controller made to wirelessly recharge your joycon controllers for your Nintendo Switch, so we’re going to be really pushing that in our booth this year.”
“We’ll also have both engineers and sales engineers online for live chat and for video meetings and we have a really cool development tool chooser that we’ve integrated into our booth this year to kind of help engineers and product devs alike navigate through our extensive product profile to pick the best one for them.”
What are you personally excited for integrators to see when they visit your booth?
“So I’m personally excited just because this is Powercast’s first time exhibiting at CEDIA. As far as integrators go, we’re really excited to be able to share our technology with them.”
“Powercast has been in the wireless power space since 2003 so it’s not a new technology, but it’s new to the consumer area. So we’ve been working with industrial sensors and we’re excited now to apply that technology to home automation sensors and other technologies within the home. We’re pretty excited just to be able to really demonstrate the ways that we can cut the cords from those in-home technologies.”
Does the company have any educational training being offered during the show?
“We have a couple of different tools [that] are on our booth page. One of them is a link to our wireless power calculator, [which] is a tool that’s aimed at engineers. However, you don’t have to be an engineer to use it, and it kind of demonstrates the trade-offs between distance output voltage and other technical areas within the technology to give you a feel for how much wireless power you can expect to receive in your specific device.”
“We’re also going to have a development tool chooser so you can click through a couple different questions and the chooser will recommend which tool is best for you. And of course, we’ll have engineers on hand to chat during the show itself.
“We will actually have our CTO, as well as some other members of our technical team on hand to really help you assess whether or not RF wireless power is a good fit for your technology or for your projects.”
