Audio Technica is a popular manufacturer of phono cartridges, and now with the release of the AT-PEQ30 High-Performance Phono Stage, the company offers a complementary phono preamp to its cartridges.
The company says the AT-PEQ30 can be used as a phono stage for someone’s audio system or it can be used to upgrade the built-in phono preamp that comes with some of today’s turntables.
Audio Technica explains its new phono stage provides users a selectable moving magnet (MM) and moving coil (MC) input with a fixed gain of 35dB (MM) or 59 dB (MC). The phono stage’s input impedance is 47 kiloohms for moving magnet and 120 ohms for moving coil to support its use with a range of phono cartridges.
The AT-PEQ30 also delivers a 250 mV line-level input for both MM and MC phono cartridges.
Audio Technica adds that it builds the phono preamp using components such as a machined aluminum front panel, along with gold-plated input and output connects. The product’s FET inputs are designed to minimize noise and the phono preamp provides RIAA equalization with tonal balance from 20Hz to 20kHz.
