For integrators looking for high-quality demo material using Master Quality Authentication (MQA) files, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band The Doors is set to celebrate the 50th-anniversary release of its third album Waiting For The Sun.
Released in 1968, Waiting For The Sun was the group's third platinum album in less than two years, and the first Doors record to top the charts. The album features songs like “Hello, I Love You,” “Five to One” and “The Unknown Solider.”
As part of the 50th-anniversary version of the album, The Doors are releasing a two-CD/single LP package that features a 180-gram version of Waiting For The Sun with new stereo mixes of the record.

The album has also been remastered from the original tapes by Bruce Botnick, and the second CD in the set offers 14 unreleased tracks that include nine songs discovered from outtakes of the original recording sessions. Five other tracks in the upcoming set, which will be available this September, were recorded live in Copenhagen back in 1968.
“I prefer some of these rough mixes to the finals, as they represent all of the elements and additional background vocals, different sensibilities on balances, and some intangible roughness, all of which are quite attractive and refreshing,” notes Botnick.
Waiting For The Sun Ready for Streaming
In addition to the 50th anniversary two-CD/one-180-gram package, The Doors will also make the album available as a digital download and will be available to streaming services.
The physical and streaming media will be available with MQA high-resolution audio options, allowing listeners to hear high-resolution audio versions of the record.
Marking the success of the single “Hello, I Love You,” the band's second number one Billboard single, Rhino Records will release a 7-inch version of the song with “Love Street” as the b-side.
The 7-inch single will be available on Aug. 3 for $9.98 to coincide with the song's run as the top single during the first two weeks of August 1968.
Besides the commercial success of the album, Waiting For The Sun was one of the first records to employ Ray Dolby's A301 noise reduction. At the time in the mid-to-late 1960s, A301 was a cutting-edge solution, and the album helped to usher Dolby Laboratories as a technical force in the entertainment industry.
