Long-time consumer-electronics executive Stephen DeFuria has passed away after a long battle with cancer. He was 61 years old.

Industry friend and colleague Bob Brown says DeFuria “had a long career in retail and manufacturing and touched so many people in his life.”

DeFuria founded the Massachusetts-based A/V retailer Audio Vision (later Ensemble) in 1985, where he would remain for 16 years. He went on to serve in national and worldwide sales positions for NAD Electronics, Thiel and others.

In 2016, DeFuria led a group of investors in acquiring VANA, a distributor of high-performance audio lines including Audio Physic, Primare Electronics, European Audio Team (E.A.T.) and Dr. Feickert Turntables.

“His friends were many, his influence substantial,” Brown says.

He is survived by wife Stacey Kerek and children Jason, Elizabeth, Meghan and Dillon.
