This week at CES 2016, Skreens announced a newly-patented device that combines up to four HDMI inputs on one single display. A small gadget, the self-titled Skreens sits between the HDMI devices and whichever monitor used to display the video content.
The Skreens mobile app then controls how and where each input is displayed. Users can resize and arrange the incoming content into several squares of different sizes that overlap one another or tile neatly on the monitor. The video content can even display in a transparent hue over each other. Instead of plug and play, Skreens is calling it “plug, play and play.”
The device comes in two versions: Skreens Plus2 includes three HDMI ports — two inputs and one output — and Wi-Fi. Skreens Plus4 delivers the same experience as the Plus2 but offers you four inputs and a single output, plus Wi-Fi.
Skreens can also display web content like YouTube or Twitter feeds without a mobile device.
With Skreens, users can connect, say, a game console, Google Chromecast, Blu-Ray player and cable box to a TV and view all the content simultaneously. That should solve a few family disputes, granted the TV is big enough.
Skreens was developed via Kickstarter campaign. Final princing and date of availability have not yet been determined.
