Hunter Douglas PowerView Updates Lets Integrators Pull Off Some Seriously Big Feats

Along with a few other updates, the new PowerView XL Motors let integrators get big with shading installs.
Published: May 13, 2025

Hunter Douglas has rolled out a series of enhancements to their PowerView Automation system, bringing quieter motors, a more advanced set of control permissions and more streamlined battery storage solutions for wireless shades.

This is the latest update to Hunter Douglas’s PowerView home automation system since the company expanded its control to shades, blinds and shutters in October of last year.

More Granular Home Access Management on PowerView App

First up on the list, the Hunter Douglas PowerView app is receiving two new permission tiers that can be set by either the homeowner or the integrator.

Previously, permissions on the app were broken up into “Complete Access,” which offered full control over every part of the system, and “Basic Access,” which only allowed triggering of shades and scenes.

Following the update, which will be available to all users when downloading the latest version of the PowerView app, the Basic tier will get a few more touches like being able to restrict controls to specific rooms and for a specific time/duration.

Hunter Douglas states that the features lend themselves well to short-term rentals, but can also be leveraged for parental controls or granting temporary access to guests or service providers.

Less Noisy, More Powerful Motor

Along with the app update, the PowerView XL Motor is getting an upgrade for the Designer Roller and Screen Shades, Designer Banded Shades, and Alustra Woven Textures Roller Shades lines.

According to Hunter Douglas, the new motor provides double the torque of its predecessor and is designed specifically to accommodate larger, heavier shades on more expansive windows. The company states the motors can work with a shade up to 156-inches wide and 180-inches high without sacrificing performance.

The new XL Motor is also supposed to be a lot quieter, as well. The device reportedly operates at 10 decibels lower than its predecessors.

Additional Internal Battery Enhancements

Lastly, the team at Hunter Douglas are introducing some enhancements to its Internal Rechargeable Battery (IRB). To start, the batteries are being expanded to become compatible with Duette and Applause Honeycomb Shades and Vignette Modern Roman Shades (Stacking Style).

Additionally, all new IRB-equipped products will use the universal swivel magnetic charging adaptor, creating a consistent and user-friendly charging experience across shade types, according to Hunter Douglas.

These new IRB products can then be connected to the PowerView Solar Charger, which in most cases can eliminate the need for charging.
