Crestron has released Crestron Home OS 4.8, an update that places a stronger emphasis on whole-home shading control while also expanding support for its Cevo Mini Remote, according to a recent post on the Crestron blog.
Changes Coming to Crestron Home OS 4.8
One of the most notable changes in Crestron Home OS 4.8 is a redesigned approach to shading control. The update introduces a dedicated Shading tile on the system’s home screen, giving users immediate access to all motorized shades throughout the residence. Rather than managing shades on a room-by-room basis, homeowners can now view and adjust shading across the entire home from a single, unified interface.
According to Crestron, this update is intended to align shading control more closely with the way lighting is already managed within the Crestron Home ecosystem. The new layout allows for faster whole-home adjustments, clearer system feedback, and a more consistent experience across touchscreens and mobile devices. The company says the change was driven by dealer and homeowner feedback, particularly for larger homes and open-concept layouts where room-by-room control can feel restrictive.
Crestron notes that the updated shading interface also enhances scene creation and multi-room automation, supporting goals such as improved comfort, privacy, and energy efficiency. Visual indicators now show whether shades are open, closed, or in motion, providing real-time status feedback as commands are issued.
The software update also complements Crestron’s broader investment in residential shading solutions, including expanded hardware options, power configurations, and fabric and style selections. Crestron recently added Horizontal Sheer Shades to its portfolio and continues to publish educational content focused on integrating shading into holistic lighting design strategies, according to the company.
In addition to shading enhancements, Crestron Home OS 4.8 delivers full support for the Cevo Mini Remote. With this update, homeowners can control lighting, shading, audio, and video directly from the handheld device. The Cevo Mini Remote is designed for streamlined operation with a reduced button layout, customizable controls, and support for both USB-C charging and wireless charging. Crestron positions the remote as a flexible option for a wide range of residential applications, including media rooms, guest spaces, MDUs, and marine environments.
Crestron says the combined updates in OS 4.8 are aimed at improving usability and responsiveness across the Crestron Home platform, reinforcing its focus on intuitive control of lighting, shading, audio, and video from a unified interface, according to the Crestron blog.
