CDGi Suspends Its Indie Home Theater Seating Packages

Cinema Design Group International (CDGi) is stopping the production of its affordable Indie Home Theater seating packages, noting the furniture market is on 'a race to zero in pricing' hit by 'cheap imports.'

Cinema Design Group International (CDGi) has announced that it will be suspending its Indie Packages of Theaters. The program was created back in 2010 during the recession in response to the need to provide an acoustically effective theater at an affordable price point for everyone.

The company says the driver for the change is based on the Indie Seating line in particular. Cheap imports have driven margins down. Similar to Cloud computing and TVs, the seating market has experienced a race to zero in pricing.

“We have earned an excellent reputation for serving high profile residential clients and their integrators throughout the world,” says Brad Bergoine, president of CDGi. “Our exit from the entry level market is more about strategic focus in the luxury space than eroding margins. Although had we been extremely profitable in the category, I am sure I would be less concerned about how the entry level market diminishes the overall CDGi brand.”

Alternatively, the company will be announcing an increase in its offerings in the luxury market to include:

  • New room mode analysis reports
  • Additional sight line analysis for theaters
  • New sound abatement products for studios and theaters
  • New luxury furniture
