Leviton is launching its Smart Ground-Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) Outlet, the newest addition to the company’s lineup of smart products designed to notify users of a GFCI trip due to a ground-fault.
According to Leviton, the My Leviton app will notify users on their smartphone if the GFCI trips, and will also provide at-a-glance details on protection status including if a ground-fault has occurred or if the GFCI is in test mode.
Via the app, users can also identify exactly which Smart GFCI has tripped in homes with multiple units installed, the company says.
In addition to smartphone notifications, Leviton’s Smart GCI Outlet includes an optional audible alarm that can be enabled or silenced.
The Smart GFCI Outlet is an upgrade to Leviton’s GFCI with Audible Trip Alert, and it complements the company’s Decora Smart product line and can be combined with other Leviton smart devices to build a whole-home solution.

Leviton’s new outlet also features the company’s Reset Lockout feature that prevents resent if GFCI is not wired or operating correctly. The outlet also features tamper-resistant shutters to help prevent the insertion of unintended foreign objects.
Leviton says the outlet is NEC code compliant and Wi-Fi certified, and is ideal for refrigerators, sump pumps and other appliances in out-of-the-way locations like a garage or basement. In addition, the outlet can be used in second homes and other remote locations where visual checks are difficult.
“Our new Smart GFCI Outlet provides the protection every home needs against the hazards of electric shock and electrocution by interrupting power if a ground-fault is detected, coupled with the added convenience of instantly alerting homeowners when a trip occurs,” says Stacy Genovese, associate product manager at Leviton. “It is ideal for remotely monitoring critical appliances, so homeowners can take immediate action in the event the GFCI trips and cuts power.”
