CEDIA Announces AV over IP White Paper

Published: January 29, 2020

CEDIA has released a new white paper on audio-video over Internet Protocol (AV-over-IP) systems. AV-over-IP technology, which is becoming more in-demand by professionals in the custom-electronics channel, provides an alternative to traditional methods of distributing multimedia such as matrix switching hardware.

“Integrators and their customers are constantly seeking more efficient, cost-effective ways of delivering today’s data-heavy media options and AV-over-IP is certainly a valuable tool worth exploring,” says Walt Zerbe, senior director of technology and standards, CEDIA.

“Our members rely on CEDIA to be on top of the topics that are new and next, and this white paper fits the bill by breaking down the ‘geekiest’ points of AV-over-IP.”

The white paper dives into all aspects of AV over IPโ€”from the practical to the technicalโ€”CEDIA called upon the expertise of Mike Maniscalco of Texas-based Better Living Technologies and Pytheas, Nathan Holmes of California-based Access Networks, and CEDIA Technical Research Consultant David Meyer.

AV-over-IP Systems” provides background on the technology, a comprehensive overview of its uses and the many considerations at play, including infrastructure, power, and compression. It also details factors like quality, bandwidth, and latency.

Two of CEDIA’s uppermost areas of strategic focus areย educationย and boostingย industry professionalismย through establishing standards, recommended practices, guidelines, and best practices. The full array of current white papers, including “AV-over-IP Systems,” is available for free to CEDIA members and for $99 to non-members.
