McIntosh, a global luxury audio company, has announced the launch of its new MIP200 Power Controller.
The N.Y.-based company’s latest product is designed to safeguard listeners’ premium home audio investments from unexpected electrical disruptions. For example McIntosh suggests that whether it’s a surge from a lightning strike, an over-voltage incident or brownout, the MIP200 offers system protection to help ensure that homeowners’ investment into their audio components remain secure and functional.
McIntosh states the MIP200 Power Controller is engineered with advanced features to provide high levels of AC power protection. Internally the power management solution incorporates a thermally protected metal-oxide varistor (TPMOV) the company asserts outperforms standard MOVs by eliminating common failure modes.
McIntosh boasts the MIP200 doesn’t just stop at surge protection: It also includes electromagnetic interference (EMI) filtering and programmable over/under voltage protection. When unsafe voltage levels are detected, the MIP200 automatically shuts off the outlets, only restoring power once conditions are safe, which McIntosh says provides peace-of-mind and precision control over the system’s power supply.
MIP200 Designed to Integrate into Smart Home Systems
Designed with versatility in mind, the MIP200 accommodates various global power standards, featuring either four Type B1 (NEMA 5-15R) outlets with two receptacles each, or 4 Type F1 (CEE 7/3 or “Schuko”) outlets with one receptacle each. An always-on, unswitched outlet ensures continuous power to critical components, while other outlets can be managed via the front panel, remote operation through the rear panel Power Control or RS232 ports, or configured as additional always-on outlets. With programmable delays for each outlet, the MIP200 minimizes inrush current, ensuring a safe startup for all connected devices and providing reduced risk of tripping circuit breakers.

According to McIntosh, the MIP200 is meticulously crafted to integrate seamlessly into custom home theater or whole-home audio systems. Its 2U rack-mountable form factor ensures easy installation, saving valuable space while maintaining a clean and organized system layout. This thoughtful design, McIntosh continues, complements its range of custom installation amplifiers and A/V processors to support functionality and aesthetic appeal.
In addition, the front panel of the MIP200 features an AC line monitor that provides real-time data on input voltage, current draw, and total apparent power that communicate the level of control the unit has over the system’s power supply. Externally, the new power management solution is encased in McIntosh’s iconic black glass front panel with aluminum trim, illuminated logo, and aluminum control knobs.
