9 Cutting Edge Screens to Spice Up Your Theaters
Sadly, the biggest boom sometimes seems to be in low-end, no-name screens from never-heard-of offshore brands. One of my rep agency friends recently mentioned that a new would-be screen vendor approaches him every week.
While professionals know that a great screen is as important as a great projector, that message sometimes gets lost before the consumer can hear it.
For someone selling $800 projectors, a $200 screen (or even one that's FREE WITH PURCHASE!) may be fine, but for those of you working with fantastic projectors, it's not.
Here's a rundown on fantastic screen technologies, whether you're doing a traditional cinema room or you need a special solution for a unique situation.

HT101, those are fair points. Screen Research were the only ones who responded to my request for images with lifestyle shots along with static product shots in time. More slides makes for a better slideshow, and I would have been happy to include more from other vendors.
Sadly, I haven’t been bought off yet, no matter how much I might wish to be. ![]()
Let me see about coming up with a slide show on new materials for you.
Lee,
Thanks for the reply.
I just feel that the only screens you have shown that I consider would be the X-screen by planar, SR/JBL’s LeWing, and Stewarts Automatic vertical Screen. But then some may like to think that the curved screens are cutting edge too.
Now, if I got to vote on what I see as being the most advanced in terms of engineering and technology. I would have to say hands down that the Planar X-Screen is most deffinatly impressive. My clients love the performance of the screen as well as sleek look. It is truely something different.
Thanks again for the reply,
-Matt
Lee,
What about the high quality content consumers need to maximize the performance of these screens? VideoGiants super high quality movies and video are the ideal match for high-end home theaters with this type of equiptment.

I only see 5 screens not 9. Screen Research is shown 4 or 5 times with the same clear Pix screen. I am just curious but what were the requirements to make the list of 5 new screens. The only ones that looked to be anything “new” were the X-screen, Stewarts vertically rising screen and the SR dropdown with the speaker bar. Some may consider the curved screens new but that isn’t a new thing, maybe just in the residential market.
If I had to guess I’d say the requirement to be included in this article was a check. And it would seem that Screen research was a big spender. Nothing against the product. the ClearPix is my 1st choice when going AT mostly because the perf screens have terrible moire and you dont see the comb filtering you get with others’ screens either.
I guess I’d just like to see an article like this include 9 new materials. not 9 different mountng solutions.
