This Smart Yacht Comes with Distributed Audio for Broadcasting DJ Parties

The Mangusta Oceano 50.2 features a distributed AV system designed to facilitate operations and communications as much as parties across the expansive vessel.

Constructed by the Overmarine Group, the Mangusta Oceano 50.2 can host 12 guests in 6 cabins with a full-beam, master stateroom on the main deck. The yacht also sports a balanced set of indoor and outdoor areas, which the owner sought to utilize to their fullest via a comprehensive AV distribution system mixed with smart-home-style automations and control, bringing on G2M Sistemi for installation.

Opting for a system that can work within the confines of the Oceano 50.2’s available technical spaces, the team at Sistemi opted to use a 4-Series Crestron Control System leveraging DM NAX AV-over-IP distribution.

While the core bulk of the system design was focused on the AV side, automation controls were also provided for lights, shades, and A/C.

Each core gathering area features a dedicated iPad tablet customized with the various capabilities that are based on the primary user (i.e. a crew member versus a guest).

The crew dinette features a 10-inch touchscreen that receives calls from the tablets and doubles as a primary monitoring station for lights and A/C. This provides a centralized location for a cabin attendant to prepare each room for guests’ arrival. There’s also a call button for the crew that keeps everyone in easy contact from any part of the yacht.

Moving on to the AV systems,8-zone streaming amplifiers are paired with additional units for passive subwoofer driving across the entire yacht. In addition to distributing audio, however, this system serves an additional purpose.

The system is set up so that anyone can pick up one of the many SIP phones on the yacht, dial a number, and speak to the select rooms—individually or all at once—from the speakers.

The system uses DM NAX distribution and adds the analog output of a SIP extension to a single unit to meet the demand.

Additionally, two DJ stations located in the sun deck and beach club were connected to sockets for stage speakers, allowing the system to route the signal at will to said stage speakers and/or the entire yacht for impromptu music performances while at sea.

Video Feeds Provide Constant Updates for Guests and Staff

In addition to audio, the yacht’s AV system can distribute video from a variety of sources including traditional satellite TV set-topboxes, select screens from the yacht navigation system such as the chart plotter and a multiscreen video feed from the external cameras of the CCTV system.

The system also provides extra scalability, so future requests for upgrades can be better managed. Additionally, the digital nature of the system makes it so G2M Sistemi can provide remote assistance provided there is a stable internet connection present.

Despite the large size of yachts, the workable space within for technology systems often is quite limited, leading to some unique challenges in designing home automation systems for these vessels. The Arksen 85 explorer yachts often travel to remote locations across the world necessitating systems that can operate in absence of an internet connection, though this is a more extreme example of some of the unique requirements for designing a control system for a seafaring vessel. Similar to the Oceano 50.2, yacht projects like those undertaken by Hemag and Sound Concepts tend to focus on having robust AV distribution systems to provide entertainment for guests across the entire vessel.
