SnapAV Bows New Araknis Wireless-AC Access Points with Remote Management via OvrC

500- and 700-series WAPs feature Wireless-AC with fast roaming and band steering, speeds up to 1,750 Mbps.

SnapAV has added to its Araknis line of networking products with two new wireless access points (WAPs) featuring Wireless-AC (802.11ac) technology, the higher-speed version of the popular 802.11 a/b/g/n wireless standards.

The 500- and 700-series are designed for residential and commercial applications, respectively, with both models offering fast roaming, dual-band capability with band steering, and remote management via SnapAV’s OvrC platform.

“At its core, Wireless-AC enhances the speeds over 5GHz radio,” says Ayham Ereksousi, Araknis Networks category manager. “Recently, the number of dual-band clients has surpassed single-band clients, and the demand from streaming applications is increasing. Wireless-AC is an answer to all of these challenges, and will be the mainstream standard for years to come.”

The new 500-Series WAP, designed for “high-interference” residential settings such as apartments and single-family homes, features a 2×2 antenna configuration and total throughput of 1200 Mbps, according to Araknis.

Essentially, the new product is the Wireless-AC version of Araknis’s existing 300 Series a/b/g/n WAP.

The new 700 Series WAP boasts throughput of 1750 Mbps and includes a 3×3 antenna configuration useful for high-speed devices such as computers.

“Although the 700-series is designed for commercial and SMB [small/media business] solutions with multiple laptops and desktops,” says Ereksousi, “we have seen them used in high-end residential settings. Some of our customers want the best, and the 700-series offers that.”

As with all Araknis WAPs, the 500- and 700-Series models feature remote cloud management via OvrC, which allows integrators to view connected clients, monitor signal strength, configure SSIDs, and more.
