In the super-competitive headphone market, few companies can match the history of Sennheiser. After the success of its HD 650 headphones, the global audio company has announced its new HD 660 S open-back headphones.
Sennheiser's new HD 660 S headphones utilize a new transducer design that delivers lower harmonic distortion and helps the headphones yield a lower impedance rating of 150 ohms.
“The HD 660 S reflects and enriches today's increasingly multifaceted audiophile experience. It frees listeners to enjoy music to the fullest—whether digital or analog. On a mobile device or on a home Hi-Fi system,” states Axel Grell, head of portfolio management, audiophile, Sennheiser. “The headphones deliver an exceptionally accurate and transparent sound that also has an expressiveness that immerses you in every emotion and nuance of music.”
Sennheiser says its latest headphones' improved performance is driven by its proprietary transducer. According to the company, the new transducer provides greater control of diaphragm movements through the use of a “precision stainless steel fabric” that is contoured to the shape of the diaphragm.
Sennheiser emphasizes that it selects and pairs the headphones' transducers by hand to guarentee the best possible tolerence matches, and it describes the aluminum transducer's tonal characteristics by saying it produces, “crisp bass, excellent mid-frequency response, and a gentle, pleasantly natural treble.”
In addition, the decades-old audio company says the headphones also feature a matte-black and anthracite design that embraces “both contemporary style and timeless elegance.”
The company specifies the headphones to produce a frequency response of 10Hz to 41kHz, and its sound pressure levels (SPLs) to achieve levels as high as 104dB.
The HD 660 S headphones from Sennheiser carry an MSRP of $500, and they can be used with portable devices and installed home audio systems.
