There has been no bigger advocate for proper grounding and isolation than Jensen Transformers. Stepping up its market education efforts to the next level, the Chatsworth, Calif.-based company has introduced its JIK-DB1 Iso-Kit for students and new professionals entering the electronics industry to learn the benefits of transformer-based isolation and its affects on ground loops.
Jensen says the kit is easy to assemble and designed for anyone learning the art of audio as part of their curriculum.
“During a recent R&D meeting, the subject of education came up. Our head of technology Bill Whitlock is well known for his educational clinics that are held at AES, InfoComm and CEDIA, along with his writings that have appeared in countless magazines and books,” says Larry Hathaway, production manager, Jensen Transformers. “This stems from Deane Jensen's belief that if you educate the end user they will make an informed decision that will hopefully include a quality component. This led us to a discussion on educating students about the benefits of transformer isolation when it comes to solving ground loops.”
Jensen points out the kit features everything a student or new employee would need to build a JIK-DB1, including an aluminum casing with a slide-in chassis, a printed circuit board with robust solder joints that are engineered to withstand students learning how to solder, and a Jensen transformer. Other items in the kit include steel-encased switches for ground lift, pad and polarity reverse; 1/4-inch and XLR connectors, and all of the necessary resisters and capacitors.
“For nearly 40 years Jensen has held the pole position as the most sought after direct box transformer. The Jensen JT-DB-EPC is incredibly accurate with a frequency response that spans from 10Hz to 50kHz; [it provides] an almost undetctable phase shift, and extremely low noise, particularly in the 50Hz to 60Hz region where electrical interference can pose serious audio problems,” adds Hathaway. “We figured what better way to get a young audio engineer excited about soldering a kit together than providing him or her with a Jensen equipped direct box that one will hold onto and use for the rest of their lives. This is how the Iso-Kit was born.”
The Iso-Kit is priced at $125.
