The commercial speaker division of MSE Audio SoundTube has just announced several new loudspeakers. SoundTube's new SM52-EZ, SM52-EZ-WX, SM82-EZ-II and SM82-EZ-II-W surface-mount speakers have been developed for electronics professionals that need indoor and outdoor speakers for their music and paging installations.
“These speakers are a great option, indoors or out, for integrators needing an economical surface-mount design,” comments David Staley, vice president of engineering and operations, MSE Audio. “SoundTube's signature clarity and musicality are paired with a rugged, highly weather resistant enclosure for use in a wide variety of applications.”
SoundTube explains the SM-EZ speakers incorporate polypropylene woofers—5.25-inch in the SM52-EZ and SM-52-EZ-WZ models, and 8-inch woofers in the SM82-EZ-II and SM82-EZ-II-WX models. All four models include soft-dome tweeters, and SoundTube's BroadBeam Ring technology that is designed to deliver high levels of intelligibility on and off axis.
The SM52-EZ and SM82-EZ-II utilize ported enclosures with port plugs for outdoor installations, and the speakers' grilles and mounting hardware are made of aluminum to ensure their durability. The SM52-EZ-WX and SM-82-EZ-II-WX speakers feature sealed enclosures, aluminum grilles and stainless steel fasteners and mounting brackets. SoundTube also points out that all four speakers come with IP65 ratings, which means the speakers are dust tight and are capable of withstanding water jets pointing directly at them. More specifically, the WX models are IP65 rated out of the box, and the standard models meet IP65 criteria when the port plugs are installed.
Other specifications of the speakers include 32-watt transformers with six-position tap switches on the SM52-EZ and SM82-EZ-II speakers. Among the options built into the six-position tap switch is the choice of 70.7-volt, 100-volt and 8-ohm bypass to allow dealers to tailor the speakers' operation to each system. The SM82-EZ-II and SM82-EZ-II-WZ employ 64-watt transformers with six-position switches that include an 8-ohm bypass option.
