Samsung BD-P2500, BD-P2550 Blu-ray Players Stream Netflix
Companies say "a range of [Samsung] home entertainment products" to offer Netflix streaming.
Netflix and Samsung have reached an agreement to stream movies and TV episodes to Samsung's BD-P2500 and BD-P2550 Blu-ray players.
The companies also say "a range of [Samsung] home entertainment products" will follow suit and offer streaming of Netflix content.
Music from Pandora is also now compatible with the BD-P2550. Also, a firmware upgrade for DTS-HD audio will be available for both the BD-P2500 and BD-P2550 on October 30.
Those who already own one of the Blu-ray players and have a Netflix subscription can get the upgrade for free, enabling streaming of more than 12,000 Netflix movies and TV episodes.
Netflix members add content to their queues from the Netflix Web site and begin watching the content about 30 seconds after they make a selection. The Blu-ray players' remote controls enable fast-forwarding, rewinding and browsing of content.
Netflix recently partnered with LG, offering content streaming on LG's BD300 Blu-ray Player. LG and Netflix announced plans for the collaboration in January.
"In its new form, Samsung Blu-ray players become the ultimate content delivery box, combining on-demand access to movies and jaw-dropping Full HD viewing," says Reid Sullivan, VP of marketing, audio/video and imaging at Samsung.
"Samsung presents a new value proposition for Blu-ray players by positioning it as a portal to a world of engaging digital content, be it Blu-ray discs, movies from Netflix or other online content."
