There are many cases in the home electronics industry where the client doesn’t understand the capabilities of home technology experts.
Gary Stubbs of the Florida-based custom electronics integration firm Gary’s AV, not too long ago met with a client that stated he wanted a large-screen TV and a Lutron shades system. Taking those initial wants as a starting point, Stubbs explained to the client that through products like an AV receiver and other components, his company could design and install a modern smart-home system that exceeds anything he previously envisioned.
“The client increased his budget by another $20,000 and he wanted to bring his wife back for our next meeting,” recalls Stubbs.
“When they returned it was by then he understood the importance of why he needed Dolby Atmos with his system after the experience he had in our showroom. To control the system, we explained that he needed Control4, and after seeing the lights go dim, the blackout shades, and the drapes operate through a command from Josh.ai he had to have it.”

Stubbs points out that augmenting home technology solutions like the Control4 and Josh.ai systems, the installation also includes customized seating from Acoustics Innovations, as well as solutions from Acoustical Wall Scapes, and electronics from Samsung and Yamaha.

Outlining the installation process, Stubbs notes the fiber-optic ceilings process began with three-to-four weeks of design. Once the renovations had started, the installation process took six-to-eight weeks, which included the custom seating, star ceilings, and Wall Scapes.
“We were 90% close to the original plans, because we had to slightly move the doors to compensate for the riser,” he comments.
Some of the other design elements that Stubbs says stand out for his company are the AV racks, which were built into the walls to save floor space with room to make servicing the components easy. Gary’s AV also provided the client the option of choosing from a large-screen television or a two-piece projection system, and the client opted for a Samsung 98-inch QLED television.
Making sure his wife was involved in the design of their home and all the home technology involved, the client’s wife chose a red design theme for the home theater.
Stubbs adds Yamaha’s A6A AVENTAGE 9.2-channel AV receiver that is 8K compatible, served as a means of inspiration for his company to push the boundaries of system design.
“This project ranks number one in terms of dedicated theater room,” boasts Stubbs. “We’re very proud to have designed and installed this system, and we really feel this project puts us on precipice of greatness.”
