Many home-technology integrators can create a beautiful rack of A/V and home-automation equipment, down to the expertly organized cables on the back side. But only the fussiest will take that one extra step to make sure all faceplates on the front side of the rack line up perfectly — all squared up and flush with each other.
Michael Restrepo, owner of Restrepo Innovations in Paramus, N.J., demonstrates his fastidious attention to detail, and educates other installers on the fine art of rack finishing.
In this video posted on Linkedin, Restrepo explains how it gets “next to impossible” to put that last faceplate in the rack as the installer tightens all the components.
“Yes, we could probably just force it in, put a screw in it and be done with it,” he says, “but that wouldn't be putting it in finished.”
Here's how Restrepo puts the last finishing touch on his racks:
Commenting on Linkedin, one technician says a better approach would be to populate the rack with the equipment lying face down, but in this situation, Restrepo responds, the ceiling was too low and the space too restrained for that approach.
Regardless of anyone else's “better” approach, the video does a nice job showcasing the care that Restrepo puts into every job, and the pride he takes in his work.
Perfectionist's Rack Job is Never Done
Restrepo shares a second video highlighting some of the custom flourishes on this hunk of steel.
