It’s no secret that the bulk of customers for custom home electronics integrators are affluent and able to afford large, luxury smart homes and the integrated systems our readers install for them. Those systems are typically not cheap, but that doesn’t stop sales of smart homes and smart home systems from sustaining a massive industry.
Integrators, dealers and manufacturers will often send us case studies that go over these projects in great detail, but we know there are far more smart homes out there. We looked at Zillow’s “recently sold” section and searched by keyword “smart home” to find hundreds more that were sold throughout the U.S. over the last month.
In fact, there were nearly 4,000 home sales categorized with the word “smart homes” by listing agents on Zillow over the last 30 days. Here are some of the more impressive smart homes we found.
1771 Thatch Palm Dr, Boca Raton, FL
This 7,500-square-foot home built in 2016 in Boca Raton, Fla. is incredible, per the images on Zillow. The description lists the home’s premium feature, including a private bedroom balcony overlooking a golf course, dark-stained oak flooring and a salt-chlorinated pool and spa. However, what caught our attention was the “smart Crestron controls” that enable the homeowner to “manage every aspect of the home, from lights to music to security cameras.” This hold sold for $8,225,000.

Now we take a trip north to New York City, where this 4,700-square-foot condo sold for $8.25 million. The six bedroom, five-and-a-half bath luxury condo on the Upper West Side boasts top-of-the-line features, including a multi-zone Crestron system that the listing agent says controls temperature and audio with a built-in speaker system, and multi-zone central AC and heating.

Although smaller than some other luxury homes, this home boasts all of the amenities custom integrators are used to working alongside. According to the Zillow listing, the home features LED lighting, a 10-zone surround sound Sonos system with built-in speakers, a whole-home security system and other smart home features. The $1.2 million home’s basement also includes a theater-zoned surround sound home theater. In addition, two backyard pergolas include outdoor TVs.

We can’t mention luxury smart homes without talking about homes in the Los Angeles area, which brings us to our next home, which recently sold for $9.75 million. The massive home is just over 10,000 square feet of luxury, which includes Control4 and Lutron systems, according to the listing. Smart home features included a soundproofed theater room with 4K surround sound, a 4K projector and 120-inch screen. In addition, the family room features “motion sensored motorized 9’ pocket multi-slide doors,” according to the listing.

Let’s stay in California a bit and go into Los Angeles to talk about this 4,400-square-foot home that sold for $4.55 million. Among the smart home features are a rooftop deck with a wet bar, refrigeration, gas fire pit, seating for 50 “all put to lighting and surround sound conducted by Control4 with the Hollywood sign as a backdrop.” Other smart home technologies include a 4K streaming security system, Denon surround sound and more. 750 Club Way, Eugene, OR
From California, we go north to the Pacific Northwest to this home in Eugene, Oregon that sold for nearly $2.3 million. At these price ranges, it’s a foregone conclusion that the home is beautiful and spacious with about 6,700 square feet. However, it’s the “fully integrated Control4 smart home system” that caught our attention. This gives homeowners full control of security, LED lighting, audio and video throughout the home, per the Zillow listing.

681 Dragon Peak Dr, Henderson, NV
When I saw this listing, I had to make sure it was indeed a residence and not a spaceship. This 9,500-square-foot home rightly sold for nearly $13 million. There isn’t much in the way of detail about the home’s smart home technology, but the listing does mention Savant, surround sound and security. However, it’s still worth a look just to see the incredible architecture and the Vegas skyline views the home offers, not to mention the two infinity pools.

3329 E Flower St, Phoenix, AZ
Still in the desert, we check out this Phoenix home that is modestly sized at about 2,800 square feet, but doesn’t skimp on smart home technology. According to the listing, the $1 million home features two Nest thermostats, Lutron dimmers, a security system, and smart pool controls. The home also includes a whole-house water filtration system, a programmable irrigation system, and more.

Another Pheonix smart home makes our list, as this home boasts a ton of custom technology, including a smart Wi-Fi gas oven and a built-in smart coffee machine. According to the listing, it is “smart home ready” with Legrand smart switches and CAT cable running in each room. Hopefully the new owners who spent $3.1 million on the 3,300-square-foot home will take advantage of that technology.

31 Green Ln, Weston, MA
The Boston area has a reputation for pricey and luxurious homes, so I, a Massachusetts native, wanted to check out the local smart market. This home is in Weston, which is one of the more affluent areas in New England. The Zillow listing mentions smart lighting, shades, sound, HVAC, a heated driveway (for the New England winters) and more, but another real estate listing mentions Savant smart home technology. Too bad for me, it’s off the market after being sold for $8.25 million. I could have used the 9,500 square feet.
