Google has announced it has plans to drop support for its Nest Secure and Dropcam home security systems on April 8, 2024. Following the sunsetting of these systems, Google has stated it will be moving all Nest Secure customers over to ADT, which the company partnered with back in 2020.
This comes following ADT’s release of the ADT Self-Setup System, which offers an out-of-the-box smart home security system using both ADT and Google Nest products.
“We believe that our partnership with ADT creates a more helpful smart home security experience to help people connect and protect what matters most—both today and in the future,” Google says. “So starting April 8, 2024 support will stop for Nest Secure.”
The announcement is part of an ongoing effort by Google to further unify its smart home ecosystem to all be operable through a singular control interface. Being a holdover from Nest’s pre-Google days, Nest Secure and Dropcam are currently only operable via the Nest App.
Despite stating full support for Nest Secure will be discontinued in April 2024, Nest Secure itself will disappear from the Nest app within the next month. Owners of a Nest Secure system will reportedly be receiving a free ADT security system as part of the Google/ADT partnership (though only if the ADT security system chosen is $485 or less in value).

Dropcam will similarly have its availability pulled from the Nest app, with Google citing its dated hardware as being a core issue with delivering device updates and other meaningful upgrades. Many of the devices that exist are now over a decade old.
The company has also stated it will be ending its Works with Nest program in favor of launching a script editor for Google Home that will allow easier programming of home automation routines on the platform.
Google has state it will end the Works with Nest program on September 29, 2023, after which, it will open the script editor for public access.
