A big honking touchscreen on a refrigerator might seem like a gimmick, but if you spend a little time with the “Family Hub” on Samsung's smart refrigerator, it starts to make sense. You know that new flavor of soda you just tried? Make yourself a memo never to buy it again.
How about a little news with that shave? Seura's new Smart Mirror has an Android engine inside, allowing users to swipe their way through email, weather, news, even smart-home controls as they prepare for the day.
Savant reintroduces its TrueImage UI at CEDIA 2017, just for lighting. The UI works with new Bluetooth smart bulbs from Savant. Take a picture of a lamp in its off state, and then again in the on state, and Savant does the rest. In the app, simply tap the lamp to control on, off, dim and color. The status is reflected in the UI.
This sliding rack from Legrand's Middle Atlantic may not be “smart” in the smart-home sense of the word, but it sure is clever. From the company's new Proximity line of mounting devices, the slider stows little devices behind the TV, easily accessible for service. Disengage the Lever Lock to remove the plate from the mount.
Proof that URC revamped the underlying code for its Total Control 2.0 to make the system extremely fast and efficient. Check out the responsiveness of home-automation commands.
