HP has unveiled the first piece of technology to be built off of Google Beam, the 3D video communications technology formerly known as Project Starline. Dubbed the HP Dimension, it is in HP’s own words, an AI-powered, 3D video communications solution consisting of a 65-inch display paired with six high-speed cameras inside the bezel designed to replicate the feeling of being in-person, with no headsets, glasses, or wearables required.
“We believe that meaningful collaboration thrives on authentic human connections, which is why we partnered with Google to bring HP Dimension with Google Beam out of the lab and into the enterprise,” says Helen Sheirbon, SVP and president of Hybrid Systems, HP Inc. “HP Dimension with Google Beam bridges the gap between the virtual and physical worlds to create lifelike virtual communication experiences that brings us closer together.”

Additionally, the HP Dimension includes adaptive lighting and spatial audio to further add to sensation that the person onscreen feels like they’re in the room. According to HP, the lighting “adjusts to the environment,” allowing for more realistic shadows and skin tones, while spatial audio provided by Poly Studio A2 table mics make sure the voice remains positioned where the body appears in the virtual space. This is made possible by four speakers located behind the Dimension’s acoustically transparent mid-wall.
According to HP, the new conferencing solution will provide a native Zoom Rooms or Google Meet experience and support three functions: 3D immersive one-on-one communications, 2D traditional group meetings, and meeting interoperability with cloud-based video services such as Teams and Webex. This means users of the HP Dimension can still engage in video calls with those who don’t, however, the 3D features of the call will not be noticeable to either parties engaged.
HP Dimension with Google Beam is said to represent the culmination of HP’s ongoing investment in innovation to create a culture with more immersive and authentic collaboration experiences designed for the Future of Work. HP and Google are taking this technology into the enterprise, to deliver deeper, more authentic human connection and communication.
The HP Dimension is set to launch later this year in the U.S. with the starting price of the device being $24,999 MSRP. Users will also need to purchase a separate Google Beam license to gain access to Zoom or Google Meet, though the exact cost of the license has not yet been released.
