Great Neck, N.Y.-based ATTYWON – a top Stealth Acoustics and Samsung dealer – provides and installs equipment, programs control systems, provides ongoing support and more from the beginning and through the life of its systems, says principal Eyal Akler.

CE Pro 100 dealer ATTYWON does about 70% residential, 30% commercial jobs in an affluent part of the country. “We’re on Long Island, so I like to say from Manhattan to Montauk, tip to tip,” he notes of the territory.

Because of that range, ATTYWON is in luxury apartments and residences in the city, and homes that average 7,000-12,000 square feet out on the island, with some very specific design requirements for demanding clientele.

CE Pro asked Akler about how Stealth Acoustics helps on projects, especially with Samsung Frame installs.

How long have you been a Stealth Acoustics dealer and what attracted you to their invisible speakers?

We’ve been a Stealth dealer for probably close to a decade now. We needed a solution for an an invisible speaker, because a lot of the homes we work on are ornate or have special wallpaper, special stuff going on in the ceiling where oftentimes it doesn’t lend itself to have a gray speaker grille, whether it’s round or square either in the wall or in the ceiling – it just disturbs the aesthetic of the room. Some people just simply don’t want to see speakers, so we needed something that’s pretty fairly priced.

I would say Stealth’s price to performance is very balanced, they sound great, they don’t break the bank. They’re not an inexpensive product by any means, but for what you’re getting for the need, they’re quite affordable.

Especially when it comes to apartments in the city – a lot of owners and designers are very particular about the look of a room, if they have paintings in a room or a Samsung Frame TV, which we’ve installed a lot of.

How have you become a specialist in mating Stealth speakers with Samsung’s stealthy Frame TV?

We’re a Platinum Samsung dealer and The Frame TVs are very popular, and we’ve hung them in all kinds of situations from eat-in kitchens to fancy living rooms. If you have a TV that’s designed to mimic a piece of art on the wall, having it on the wall with a couple of in-wall speakers on either side really doesn’t lend itself to the aesthetic.

We’ll put in two, maybe four Stealth Acoustics invisible speakers [behind] the wall, sometimes we’ve done surround-sound installations with invisible speakers – it really exceeds people’s expectations, they’re really not expecting it to work as well as it does.

When you couple it with subwoofers and are driving it with enough power, it’s quite surprising when you have a fancy-looking living room space with a 65- or 75-inch ‘painting’ on the wall and suddenly you turn it on and you’re watching a movie and the whole room produces sound … you talk about an instant transformation.

If you’re showing this to your guests, they’re looking around going, ‘Where’s the sound coming from? I don’t see floorstanding towers, I don’t see anything in the ceilings or walls.’ So it’s a very cool effect. We’ll take them up to the wall, tell them to put your hand here and start feeling around and they can feel the vibrations.

What are other typical Stealth Acoustics invisible speaker applications ATTYWON deploys?

More often than surround-sound speakers we use them for distributed audio throughout the house – in hallways, bedrooms, living rooms, dining rooms – where sound just emanates from the walls. When you install these invisible speakers in the ceiling especially, and the sound is not projecting outwards but is projecting down it tends to fill the room a lot better.

The range of your hearing can’t quite tell where the sound is coming from exactly, and it tricks you because you can’t put your finger on it but sound is coming from everywhere. So you can have a nice, even sound throughout an apartment or a home and you get that museum look and feel where you don’t see speakers. We use that more often than anything else.
