The growth of immersive audio started in cinemas and over the past decade it has made its way into home theater, museums, amusement parks, and now through the new Sono Era 300 speaker, immersive audio is now available as a stereo and whole-house audio solution.
The newly announced speaker from Sonos will be available on March 28, and, coinciding with the release of its new immersive audio products, Sonos will make spatial audio available for Apple Music subscribers.
Sonos Era 300 Offers Immersive Audio Music via Apple Music
With the announcement that it is bringing spatial audio to its platform through an agreement with Apple Music, Sonos points out that some customers will have access to immersive audio content on March 28. The popular speaker company explains that spatial audio for users that can access the content, provides a multi-dimensional listening experience.
“It’s a thrilling time in music as spatial audio—and the artist creatively that comes with it—continues to grow,” says Giles Martin, producer, songwriter, composer and vice president of sound experience at Sonos.
“Sonos continues to put its listeners at the forefront of sound innovation, ensuring they have access through Apple Music to transformative experiences like spatial audio with Dolby Atmos, so they can feel more from the content they love.”

Elaborating on the Era 300, Sonos says the speaker’s enclosure is shaped to reproduce spatial audio content that is highlighted by the speaker’s hourglass design that helps to disperse sound in all directions. Sonos also points out the new spatial-audio speaker can be paired with the Arc or Beam (Gen 2) as a rear-channel speaker solution.
In addition to the Era 300 immersive audio speaker, Sonos has introduced its new Era 100 loudspeaker. According to Sonos, the Era 100 represents the evolution of its Sonos One product. The Era 100 employs a pair of angled tweeters that help the speaker create a stereo image from a single enclosure, and the tweeters are augmented by a mid-bass driver. Sonos says the Era 100 also provides homeowners a small-footprint solution that’s capable of residing on a bookshelf, kitchen counter or nightstand, and integrators can set the speaker up to serve as a rear surround when paired with a Sonos soundbar.
Sonos adds both the Era 100 and the Era 300 are manufactured with post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic and packaged in 100% sustainably sourced paper. Sonos stresses that its latest speakers are also engineered to reduce power consumption by consuming less than two watts at idle power, and the speakers offer an advanced sleep function.
