Luxury apartments are dominating the rental market. Not only do these urban oases have sleek, contemporary interior designs, they also compete to have the most rich and varied array of community amenities as well as security. As a supplier to the smart home and security integration industries, ADI Global Distribution is an ideal partner to provide dealers with the latest products and expertise to guide them into the increasingly attractive multi-dwelling unit (MDU) sector of the property rental technologies (proptech) market.
In the video above, Cynthia Menna, vice president & general manager of AV, ADI Global, joins CE Pro to discuss the wealth of ways that integration firms can get get their feet wet in the MDU sector, with various technologies able to be deployed to different applications.
“I personally love the category, because to your point, there’s so much facets to the MDU market,” Menna says.
“We certainly saw as COVID but post-COVID it continues, really the huddle spaces, common areas, video conferencing in particular in those common areas, those shared work spaces, because a lot of folks did shift to Work From Home (WFH) and continue to bring the office to their home offices and to their apartments or condos, etc., so we’re seeing that as a big area.”
Meanwhile, many integrators are looking for opportunities to grow their business. MDUs offer the perfect chance for AV and security to partner and ask for more business in the same building. While you are looking to bid on one piece of the business, why not ask for more integration work?

“In the MDU space you’re always trying to attract people in your market into your building, into your facility offering top-class, world-class amenities,” Menna adds. “So luxury speaker and theater areas, luxury viewing areas where you’ve got video walls so you can watch a game and bring in others to share that experience with you.
“But even at the very basic, we’re seeing a lot in apartment MDU space where people want security, they want the safety they’re putting in where a basic security systems – we’re seeing a lot more of it, DIY/Do-It-For-Me applications, which I think is a huge opportunity for our industry.”
