Today, various speaker arrangements are used for listening to music, watching movies or making calls. upHear Home Entertainment Fraunhofer boasts is capable of unleashing the true potential of home audio devices like soundbars, smart speakers, and TVs regardless of homeowners’ speaker system configuration.
According to the European technology company, its new platform offers solutions that are designed to adapt to varying acoustic conditions, while enhancing the sound quality of any content.
Fraunhofer points out that anyone interested in experiencing an immersive sound setup powered by upHear can do so at the joint demo with Merry Electronics and StreamUnlimited at CES 2025. In the demo, Merry Electronics will showcase upHear Flexible Rendering and upHear Calibration, both by Fraunhofer IIS, based on a completely integrated system with wireless transmission (Bluetooth LE Audio). The setup includes a soundbar and two satellite loudspeakers plus external subwoofer, manufactured by Merry Electronics. The cutting-edge upHear algorithm is running on a Stream1955 streaming module by StreamUnlimited.
The technology company emphasizes that a loudspeaker’s acoustic performance is dependent on its environment. Fraunhofer asserts that its upHear Calibration optimizes the playback of audio in any room, rendering the environment irrelevant, and it suggests that its room equalization technology can improve the listening experience during audio playback for improved listening experiences.
upHear Flexible Rendering renders any input signal from legacy content up to modern Next Generation Audio formats for optimal playback on any setup. As a result, it becomes just as easy to add a speaker to a system as to remove it, making it a solution for households with more than one smart device.
Fraunhofer IIS will showcase upHear technology at CES 2025 in Las Vegas. Visitors are welcome to visit the Fraunhofer upHear suite 34-204 at the Venetian Tower.
