The 50-year-old audio manufacturer PSB Speakers is bolstering its Synchrony line of products with the addition of its new T800 loudspeaker.
Building upon the design of the T600, the new T800 tower speaker incorporates a 5-way transitional driver array that includes three 8-inch woofers, along with a 5.25-inch midrange driver and a 1-inch titanium dome tweeter that’s housed in a heavily braced MDF cabinet.
PSB states that its new driver platform delivers a dramatic reduction of non-linear distortion that allows for high sound pressure levels without with compression or increased total harmonic distortion (THD) and intermodulation distortion (IMD). The Canadian audio company also points out that its new driver assemblies employ Faraday rings, shorted-turn, longer voice coils and symmetrical magnetic drives that work together to reduce driver distortion.
Managing the multi-driver array is a Linkwitz-Riley fourth-order crossover that utilize high-voltage poly film capacitors and oxygen-free wire interconnects for complete driver control.
The speaker which is offered in a choice of walnut or gloss-black finishes employs individual chambers with rear-firing ports for each woofer, and the speaker’s outrigger feet use IsoAcoustics isolators to decouple the T800 loudspeaker from floor surfaces.
Additionally, PSB rates the T800 loudspeaker’s frequency response at 0+/- 1 1/2dB of 24Hz to 24kHz.
