There were quite a few oohs and aahs heard at distributor Professional Audio Associates (PAA) 10th annual open house this week as integrators from around Boston got a look at the new OLED wall paper TVs from LG Electronics.
Three of the new lightweight, razor-thin OLED TVs were on the display for both commercial and residential application. The primary residential model is the 65-inch model, the LG Signature OLED TV W – 4K HDR Smart TV. Because the 16-pound TV is so thin, the unit comes with a separate 22-pound AV box that sits separately in front of the TV. The box has all the inputs, including four HDMI, three USB, one Ethernet, one optical, one RS-232 and one composite.
“OLED is the big news among integrators,” says Lew Freedman, president of PAA. “It is spectacular. The wallpaper TV is a gamechanger.”
The PAA open house was originally established 10 years ago as a way for the distributor to showcase the latest offerings from LG. Over the years it has morphed into much more with dozens of vendors there showcasing their wares.
“This is a way for us to say thank to you all our dealers,” says Freedman, who added the LG lineup was an eye opener at the recent InfoComm show, especially for commercial applications. “Any integrator who ignores digital signage right now is crazy,” he comments.
Overall, dealers at the PAA event said both their commercial and residential business was strong. The tight labor pool continues to be an issue, but the commercial projects have been “off to the races since the presidential election,” says Freedman.
Other product lines at the PAA event included TiVo, which was showing a demonstration using MoCA, Transformative Engineering, Origin Acoustics, Parasound, Peerless-AV, Core Brands, Optoma, Tannoy, Active Thermal Management, ZeeVee, URC and Lab Gruppan. Attendees were treated to Tennessee barbeque during the open house.
