Hunter Douglas is certainly the most recognizable consumer brand name in the window shade business. Now the company is ready to parlay that consumer brand recognition to help integrators elevate their motorized shade installation business.
Headquartered in Pearl River, N.Y., Hunter Douglas is the leading manufacturer and marketer of custom window treatments in North America and a major manufacturer of architectural products. At CEDIA Expo 2019 in Denver, the company was in the Control4 booth showcasing its PowerView motorization system and touting its new Custom Integrator Program (CIP) for dealers.
To achieve that goal, the company has hired a familiar face. Industry veteran Scott Stephenson, whose resume includes helping forge the creation of Control4’s lighting control system and before that at Colorado vNet, has taken on the role of director of product management, motorization, at Hunter Douglas to drive the Custom Integrator program.
“With the Custom Integrator Program, we want to give home technology professionals a way to expand their business and create greater profitability. Hunter Douglas window treatments are beautifully designed but simple to add to any project with tools, services, and training designed for home technology professionals,” says Stephenson.
The Hunter Douglas Custom Integrator Program gives CE pros access to the complete Hunter Douglas portfolio of window treatment designs with a custom approach with color, fabric, size, and shape choices.

CIP is open to authorized integrators of home control systems such as Elan, Control4, Crestron, Savant, RTI, or URC, and begins with CIP sales and installer training, which provides instruction and education on things like shade sizing and configurations, impact of color and fabric choices on natural light control, and best practices for integrating the company’s PowerView motorized shades. The program offers quoting tools, discounted shades for dealers’ own home, and custom display discounts, along with access to online ordering on Hunter Douglas’s portal.
In addition to training and access to the full Hunter Douglas product line, integrators also receive sampling and presentation tools to demonstrate the quality and capabilities of Hunter Douglas smart shades to clients. For help installing window treatments, the Hunter Douglas Installation Service (HDIS) is also available as an end-to-end solution that guarantees accurate measuring and proper shade installation, delivered by a nationwide network of independent partners. Using HDIS includes a one-year guarantee on the installation itself as well as a five-year warranty on PowerView and a lifetime warranty on the shades.
“We’re able to offer custom window coverings that are stylish, diverse, AND smart – this presents an opportunity for dealers to bring a new feature that enhances their customer experience, as well as to capture new business as homeowners who seek shading solutions are also looking for ‘smart’ and compatible with existing tech in the home they know and love,” says Stephenson.
Hunter Douglas’ offering includes more than 20 styles of shades. PowerView is the company’s technology platform that automates and integrates shade control into major smart home systems.
Homeowners can operate their automated Hunter Douglas shades and blinds with the PowerView App, the Pebble handheld or surface remote, a scene controller, voice command, or through a compatible automation system.
PowerView can be integrated with most smart home and automation systems, such as Apple HomeKit, Control4, Crestron, Elan, IFTTT, Logitech Harmony Home, Universal Remote Control, RTI, and Savant. They can also be operated with voice control using Amazon Alexa, Apple’s Siri, or Google Assistant.
Hunter Douglas’ styles of shades include Duette Honeycomb Shades, Pirouette window shadings, Vignette Duolite modern roman shades, and Silhouette window shadings.
