At CES 2024, Airthings brought forward two new additions to its indoor air quality product portfolio: Airthings Renew and Airthings Wave Enhance. The former is a smart air purifier (a first for the company) and the latter is a battery-operated IAQ monitor designed specifically for the bedroom with its attentiveness to sleep conditions in the room.
Designed in Norway, Airthings Renew is designed to work in tandem with other Airthings products, such as the View Plus or Wave products, bridging the gap between air monitoring and remediation.
Much like the Wave Enhance, the Renew was designed specifically for use in bedrooms, with Airthings touting it as having a lower operating volume. It also includes a silent mode, reducing noise output to just 23 decibels according to Airthings.
The Renew also comes with an Auto mode and Boost mode, the former of which uses a laser-based PM2.5 sensor to detect changes in air quality and adjust the fan speed accordingly while the latter runs the fan at its highest setting for 60 minutes for faster room-clearing, with Airthings stating the device can fully cleanse the air in any room up to 525 square feet within 10 minutes.
The Airthings Renew also possesses a 4-stage HEPA-13 filter that Airthings states removes 99.97% of particulates, and a high-performance carbon filter that further removes gasses and odors from the air. It also seems to possess a decent bit of versatility in where it can be placed in a room, as the Renew is capable of being wall-mounted or laid flat, in addition to standard upright placements.

On the monitoring side, the Wave Enhance enters in as a solution specifically targeting locations where “restful sleep and the ability to focus are essential.” How the Wave Enhance accomplishes this is by featuring five IAQ sensors including an NDIR sensor to pick up on carbon dioxide (CO2) levels in a room.
In recent studies, CO2 has been most linked to drops in cognition and an overall worsening of sleep quality.
The Wave Enhance also includes sensors for airborne chemicals (VOCs), temperature, humidity, and air pressure, as well as ambient noise and light (much like the recently announced Ultrahuman Home). Additionally, the Wave Enhance can easily be mounted on a wall or sit upright on a surface using the incorporated flip-out stand and is battery powered.
Through integration with the Airthings app, Wave Enhance even provides users with a “Sleep Disruptors” report, which tracks several air quality components during sleep hours to help determine if air quality was the cause of a poor night’s sleep.
Airthings Renew and Wave Enhance also fall into Airthings’ larger, green mission to reduce new-use plastics. Renew utilizes 50 percent recycled plastic, as well as compostable packaging, Wave Enhance uses 70 percent less plastic than previous models and cuts the manufacturing carbon footprint by 87.5 percent.
Airthings Renew is currently available for pre-order on airthings.com for $399.99 USD while Wave Enhance is set to retails for $149.99 USD and will become available to purchase on Airthings.com in mid-2024.
