The new feature is available via an Action for Google Home devices and Android smartphones. Optoma claims the UHD51A was the “world's first voice assistant compatible projector” when it launched with Amazon Alexa compatibility, and now is the only projector compatible with both of the leading voice platforms.
The Optoma SmartProjection Action for Google Home and Assistant features standard and custom actions that enable users to turn the projector on and off, adjust volume and brightness, change inputs and display modes, and other image adjustment features.
“Consumers are increasingly integrating voice assistants into their daily routines, as well as expecting the convenience of smart home integration with their devices and electronics, so it was important for us to enable home theater to align with these growing consumer needs,” says Brian Soto, head of product management at Optoma Technology.
SmartProjection for Smart Home, an Alexa Smart Home skill, currently allows Optoma UHD51A users to power the projector on and off, change volume and input source, and control the USB 4K UHD media player. Coming soon to the UHD51A is Advanced SmartProjection, an Alexa Custom Skill that allows users to voice-control advanced features, including the ability to change display and HDR picture modes, and PureMotion settings.
The projector boasts 2,400 lumens, 500,000:1 contrast ratio, and HDR10 with Rec.2020 / DCI-P3 Wide Color Gamut support and Blu-ray 3D compatibility. It also features a built-in 4K UHD HDR media player and Android OS, along with a pair of HDMI 2.0 inputs with HDCP 2.2 support to ensure compatibility with the latest 4K UHD devices and consoles with HDR at 60 Hz refresh rates.
Retail price is $1,699.

Dynamic Black Technology
This feature gives more depth to your image by smoothly adjusting the lamp output to create a stunning high contrast ratio. Bright scenes appear crisp and clear, while dark scenes remain detailed with deep blacks and exceptional light and shade detail.
Using sophisticated frame-interpolation technology, advanced motion control processing eliminates motion blurring or image judder, even in high-speed action sequences. PureMotion works in both 2D and 3D and is optimized for 1080p24.
This technology ensures all the information contained in an image is accurately reproduced on the screen to give a stunning crystal clear, pin-sharp picture. Complex algorithms detect each frame and improve image sharpness before the frame is projected.
This mode allows the projector to reproduce more detailed shades of color for vibrant, natural-looking images. Colors are more saturated and more accurate.
Vertical Lens Shift
Vertical lens shift simplifies installations by shifting the image up and down without image distorsion to provide a wider range of projector placement possibilities, making it easier to position the projector in a room.
High dynamic range (HDR) technology delivers brighter whites and deeper black levels. Optoma HDR accepts HDR10 signals with four selectable picture modes: Normal, Bright, Detail, Film
Color the way it is meant to be seen – rich, colorful and cinematic pictures and games via DCI-P3 wide color gamut coverage.
HDR signals are mapped using REC.2020 tone mapping and provides coverage for REC.709, DCI-P3 and a wide coverage color gamut.
