Australia-based home security manufacturer Swann says it has created what it calls the world’s first AI home security voice assistant in collaboration with Thoughtworks.
The AI voice assistant is designed to work with Swann’s video doorbells, cameras and other devices to engage with visitors in real time across different scenarios, including package deliveries, identifying guests and deterring potential criminals.
Thoughtworks, a global tech consultancy, helped produce the AI assistant, called SwannShield, by leveraging data and AI.
“Thoughtworks’ pioneering contribution helped bring our idea of SwannShield to life and stress test the product in its critical initial phase,” Swann CEO Alex Talevski said in a statement. “Thoughtworks’ vital contribution in building the prototypes enabled us to progress our SwannShield product and launch it in the market.”
According to Talevski, the AI assistant is designed to seamlessly integrate into users’ lived while providing enhanced protection.

“Representing an exciting step forward in the democratization of AI for everyday consumers, the SwannShield sets a new benchmark for intelligent home protection and reflects our commitment to continuous improvement and customer satisfaction,” Talevski said.
Essentially, SwannShield is an AI-powered home security voice assistant that interacts with visitors in real-time, managing various scenarios such as greeting guests, instructing delivery personnel on package placement, and deterring potential threats. It effectively handles unanticipated interactions through advanced prompt engineering, ensuring courteous and appropriate responses to unfamiliar situations.
The system features a chat user interface for natural communication and allows for personalization, enabling users to define the AI’s personality. Designed for seamless integration with Swann’s video doorbells and cameras, SwannShield offers scalability for future compatibility with additional devices, enhancing overall home security and providing homeowners with peace of mind.
According to Swann, SwannShield has security and privacy built-in to effectively manage conversational exchanges across various scenarios, and the company claims the AI’s response accuracy and resilience safeguards against unanticipated interactions and adversarial requests.
It is optimized to facilitate easy updates and future scalability and allows Swann to personalize settings, like defining the AI’s personality.
Peter Barnes, head of data and AI for APAC at Thoughtworks said, “The SwannShield™ project demonstrates the importance of human-centered design principles and rigorous testing when developing AI-powered products.”
The working prototype was showcased at the Consumer Technology Association (CES) conference in Las Vegas earlier this year where it was named an Honoree in the Smart Home category. After the success at the CES conference, Swann has productized the innovative AI-enabled home security voice assistant, which is now available free of charge within the Swann Security App.
SwannShield can be used in conjunction with the SwannBuddy4K Video Doorbell via an over the air download of the latest firmware. The AI assistant will become compatible with more Swann products in future.
