Homeowners and Apple TV users with projectors powering their home theater systems could be getting a new feature designed to make Apple’s streaming TV device work better with any screen configurations.
According to reports, the tvOS 18.2 Developer Beta 1 includes the ability for Apple TV to automatically detect the best aspect ratio for TVs or projectors. Users can also manually choose from the following aspect ratios:
- 16:9
- 21:9
- 2.37:1
- 2.39:1
- 2.40:1
- DCI 4K
- 32:9
This is according to Apple journalist Sigmund Judge and several other news reports, but Apple has otherwise been quiet about the new feature.
The updates, which are currently being tested, also include an option to show or hide volume feedback from external devices like sound bars.
Meanwhile, Tech Radar reports that the new beta improves Apple TV’s enhance dioloague feature, turning on subtitles when users press the mute button. There’s also a redesigned Apple Fitness Plus app and improved support for using an iPhone as a FaceTime camera.
Apple is also expected to add new screensavers, but those haven’t yet made it to beta. tvOS 18.2 is expected to be publicly released in December.
