Following up an earlier announcement of new network switches, the newly announced Netgear Smart Managed Switches feature PoE+ to provide smart homes and small businesses with a choice of network switches to manage high levels of network traffic.
The new switches expand the company's selection of second-generation Gigabit Smart Managed Pro Switches, and Netgear says the products complement environments where converged voice, data, and IoT are implemented on a single network.

Some of the applications integrators can use the smart managed switches for include VoIP phones, IP security cameras, video-over-IP endpoints, LED lighting, home control and automation systems, proximity sensors, door locks, and other IoT products.
Netgear Offers Integrators More Security Features
Offering a choice of four models—the 24-port GS728TPv2, the 24-port GS728TPPv2, the 48-port GS752TPv2, and the 48-port GS752TPP—the new switches emphasize reliability, speed, and network security.
Netgear explains the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) Snooping monitors and allows only authorized DHCP servers to respond to DHCP requests to pass data to clients.
The switches' inclusion of Dynamic Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) Inspection (DAI) inspects ARP packets on local networks and employs the information from its DHCP database to validate ARP packets to help protect against ARP spoofing and cache poisoning.
Other features built into the switches include:
- Full Gigabit connectivity
- Traffic priority settings, helping integrators optimize voice, data, and video convergence on network installations.
- Configuration options for AV over IP with multicast capabilities.
Managing traffic, the switches provide registration with IGMP Snooping to enable the products to field IGMP reports and leave messages to inquire if hosts are interested in receiving multicast traffic on a VLAN. This limits the unnecessary flooding of multicast traffic to switch ports that are not interested in receiving multicast traffic.
The switches also support IPv6, and they offer layer 2 and layer 3 (static routing) features for IPv4 and IPv6.
