For more than a decade, the Menlo Park, Calif.-based manufacturer Oppo Digital has served as a disruptive force within the DVD, Blu-ray and now Ultra HD Blu-ray player markets through its reasonably priced and benchmark performing line of players.
Adding to its legacy, the West Coast company has announced its new UDP-203 Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Player that delivers 4K resolutions of 3840×2160, as well as the HDR10 high dynamic range (HDR) format and wide color gamut compatibility.
Oppo says it utilized its years of digital A/V experience to design the UDP-203, which features a customized quad-core video decoder/processor that incorporates its video decoding and processing technologies.
The player also features a “well balanced” laser optical disc loader that is designed to ensure smooth operation and playback of audio and video discs. The UDP-203's dual HDMI outputs offer an HDMI 2.0 output for connection to 4K Ultra HD televisions and A/V receivers, and an HDMI 1.4 output for connection to older A/V products.
Details & Specs
The player is compatible with Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, 3D Blu-ray, DVD, DVD Audio, SACD and CDs, and it decodes AIFF, WAV, ALAC, APE and FLAC digital audio files. Adding to its compatibility with SACD technologies, the UDP-203 is also capable of playing DSD64/128 and multichannel DSD64 digital audio files.
Other options built into the UDP-203 include two USB 3.0 ports on the rear panel, and a USB port on the front panel of the player. The UDP-203 also incorporates built-in 802.11ac Wi-Fi and gigabit Ethernet to provide dealers with a choice of network integration options to support the playback of media stored on home networks.
Some of the UDP-203 other home theater options include built-in processing to decode Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio, and bitstream outputs for the object-based surround sound formats Dolby Atmos and DTS:X.
In addition, the universal Ultra HD 4K Blu-ray disc player includes 7.1 analog audio output options that feature “Velvet Sound” 32-bit digital-to-analog converters (DACs) from the Japanese company AKM.
Dealers can also integrate the UDP-203 Ultra HD Blu-ray disc player into control systems via its RS-232 serial port. The player also includes a rear-panel IR port and IP control options for third-party control integration.
The player retails for $549.
