Julie Jacobson | 05/10 09:42 AM,

Proving that it’s serious about sound, Sony Electronics held an intimate press event last month in Los Angeles to launch its newest line of speakers and A/V receivers, while promoting Raul & Mexia and the Pyyramids – two rising stars of the Sony Music label. The event, held at the famed Village Studios in Los Angeles, was meant to showcase Sony’s “commitment to sound – for both music and movies,” said Sony spokesman and event emcee Ray Hartjen. While Sony usually makes headlines for its displays, especially of the 4K…

Sony 4K Ultra HD TVs Start at $5K
Grant Clauser | 04/09 06:14 AM,

There were a lot of dropped jaws and mutters of disbelief when Samsung recently announced its new 4K Ultra HD TV would sell for $39,999. On the other end of the spectrum is a 4K TV that’s actually in the zone of sorta affordable (compared to $40K), and it’s from Sony. Sony showed off two new 4K TV models at CES 2013. Now the company is announcing the prices for those models, and the smaller of the two (at 55-inches) is priced at $4,999. The larger, 65-inch model will be…

The Revitalization of 2-Piece Projection
Steve Crowe | 03/15 09:54 AM,

My life forever changed in August 2011. I bought my first house. Purchased an engagement ring for my girlfriend (now my wife). And I upgraded from a 46-inch Sony Bravia LCD TV to a 92-inch projection screen (thanks Bob Archer). That 46-inch screen, my baby I purchased in 2009, has been relegated to the bedroom. It barely gets any use. I won’t say where it ranks on the list of best moments in my life, but I wish I made the move sooner. Unfortunately, until I started working in electronics…

Sony 4K Home Theater has it all: Home Automation, Content, Audio, Video
Joe Whitaker | 02/22 08:49 AM,

With its Sony movies and music artists, a wide range of high-performance video projectors and displays, and some rocking new speakers and receivers, Sony is the one company that can give us the entire home entertainment experience. And that experience is better than most, thanks to the Sony ES (Elevated Standard) line of products for the custom installation channel. This year at CES 2013 I had one of the only demos that I have ever witnessed with top-to-bottom products all from one manufacturer … except for the video projection screen.…

Sony Wows Listeners with Speakers Built into 4K Ultra HD TVs
Julie Jacobson | 01/14 08:40 AM,
6 Comments
While most CES 2013 attendees ogled the gorgeous pictures on the myriad 4K Ultra HD (UHD) TVs shown at all the big-brand CE booths, Sony had the only 4K displays that people wanted to listen to. Available standard on Sony’s forthcoming 55- and 65-inch 4K displays (XBR-55X900A and XBR-65X900A), the speakers feature “magnetic fluid” as an alternative to the dampers found in conventional speakers. Being damperless means the speakers “create less distortion … and produce louder sound by consuming less energy, which means you can get more energy directly through…

CES 2013 TV Trends: Ultra HD 4K, Smart Features, OLED Dominating
Grant Clauser | 01/10 11:02 AM,
0 Comments
Will 2013 be the year we talk about Ultra HD 4K, smart integration or OLED? So far, it looks like all three. Among the major TV manufacturers at CES 2013, those three themes dominated, but Ultra HD and OLED are still taking the spotlight. We’ve already seen a couple of Ultra HD TVs from Sony and LG, and OLED TV demos have been floating around for several years. Smart TVs also are nothing new, but they’re getting progressively smarter. LG LG started out the CES press conference marathon and showed…

John Legend Loves Sony SS-AR1 Speakers: Hear Them at CES
Julie Jacobson | 01/07 09:57 AM,
0 Comments
Recently I had the great privilege of watching and listening to John Legend cut a track for a new album being released this summer … and the even greater pleasure of watching him enjoy the song two hours later through Sony’s new SS-AR1 speakers. Could he even tell the difference between that faithful reproduction and the one he heard in the studio? “Of course,” the Grammy award-winning singer/song told me. The studio sound is meant to be pure, whereas the speakers “give it personality.” Surrounded by a handful of press…
