Just three months after acquiring LiteTouch from Nortek (NTK), Savant is already incorporating the company’s technology into its line of home automation products. Savant has announced a line of home-control keypads based on LiteTouch’s lighting control products, namely, the Metropolitan, Circa and Echo lines. When Savant Acquired LiteTouch earlier this year, Savant general manager Jim Carroll couldn’t say enough good things about the company’s stylish keypads, which he called a “tremendous asset.” He told us, "There are a lot of jobs we do that don't have lighting control, but that…

Savant Systems, best known for its high-end Apple-based home automation systems, has acquired LiteTouch, maker of lighting control solutions for residential and commercial venues. Savant bought LiteTouch from Nortek Inc. (Nasdaq: NTK), which had acquired the lighting company in 2007 and blended it into Panamax, maker of power management solutions. "We were the last major control player without its own lighting control," said Savant general manager Jim Carroll in an interview with CE Pro on Tuesday. Savant already offers its own automation systems (naturally) as well as its own audio/video…

Julie Jacobson | 01/09 11:39 AM,

The International Consumer Electronics Show once was a hotbed for home automation, packed with top brands and start-ups alike. These days, though, it’s harder to find automated lights, smart thermostats, and whole-house solutions. If you’re in the market for such technologies, though, here’s where you can find them on the CES 2012 show floor and elsewhere. NextGen Home with Savant, Leviton, Kwikset (LVCC 26100) For years, the NextGen Home stood in the parking lot of the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC), promoting such automation systems as Life-Ware (where?) as well…

Weather buffs, rejoice! One of the best weather stations on the planet just got better. WeatherHawk has added snow to the conditions that can be monitored -- in addition to temperature, wind, rain, humidity and all the other things that weather nerds watch. WeatherHawk is arguably the leader in integration-friendly weather stations that can tie into home automation systems -- like, let me sleep in if it’s raining; alert me when the wind conditions are perfect for sailing; or adjust the indoor thermostats and humidifiers depending on the relative humidity.…
