According to a survey by the American Society for Training and Development, 75% of private sector executives said that mentoring had been critical in helping them reach their current position.
The ESA Mentorship Program is aiding the industry’s executives of tomorrow, by offering the ability to pair with industry veterans today.
The Electronic Security Association is the largest trade association in the US, representing the electronic security and life safety industry. ESA provides training, government advocacy and delivers information, tools, exclusive savings programs, events and services that members use to run and grow their businesses.
Its Mentorship Program is a structured, year-long program connecting those looking for guidance and growth with others who have committed to sharing their experience and perspective.
“The program is built on trust, collaboration and commitment,” says Robert Few, program lead and chair of the association’s Rising Leaders Professional Group. “It truly provides the opportunity for both parties to learn from each other. I think it’s a vital initiative for the future of our industry — and a game changer for those who participate.”
Mentorship is an extremely valuable endeavor. Some of the most prominent people in the industry — or any industry for that matter — can attest to at least one person who helped them get to where they are today. And now, ESA is now extending the opportunity to young and new-to-the-industry professionals.
“My mentor made me feel like someone had my back,” says mentee, Mistina Franklin of ESA’s Mentorship Program, Class of 2017. “When I had that phone call at the end of the day, he helped guide me through some of issues I was facing.”
As the national trade association for the electronic security and life safety industry, ESA takes on the important role of connecting and facilitating these relationships to help transform and grow member companies.
“This program paired me with a brilliant leader of a bigger company on the west coast,” says mentee, Shawn Crocker of ESA’s Mentorship Program, Class of 2017. “She provided me with insight to help with my current responsibilities and to grow as a person and a manager.”
The ESA Mentorship Program is looking for those willing to invest in their own professional development in 2018 — and perhaps gain a new perspective from a young or industry newcomer. Applications for the Class of 2018 are now being accepted and can be submitted at www.ESAweb.org/Mentorship. The deadline for all applications is Friday, December 8.
“This is an awesome program,” says mentor Roger Parks of Select Security. “If you have been in the industry for a number of years and are looking for a way to give back, become a mentor and make a difference in a young person's career.”
