Focused on empowering women and building networks in the consumer technology field, Women in Consumer Technology is hosting its sixth annual forum in New York, N.Y. on June 19th.
Titled “EmPOWERed,” the forum is part of the larger CE Week taking place in the city from June 18-22. According to the group's website, the forum serves up a full day of sessions, topics, workshops, and keynote speakers that relate to career enhancement and empowerment for all corporate, small business, and entrepreneurial women pursuing a career in consumer technology.
There will be two keynote speakers, both offering advice and stories of their success in the consumer technology business. Karyn Schoenbart, CEO of global advisory company The NPD Group will present her “My Journey To CEO” keynote, discussing her start in the industry all the way up to her current leadership position.
The second keynote speaker, Brigadier General Laura L. Yeager will present her “Empowerment of Women in the Military” speech, featuring a discussion of her experiences in her almost 32 years of military service, as well as tips on work/life balance and leadership techniques.
EmPOWERed Workshops
There will also be several featured workshops for attendees, including “Empowering the Empowered Woman: Mindfulness Techniques for Women Who Do Too Much” hosted by Betsy Jaffe of Amplitute Strategies. Jaffe will discuss and model hands-on techniques to help revitalize the working spirit and get women to feel more refreshed and present during their workdays.
Another notable workshop is the “Redefining Leadership With Your True North” event led by Yao Huang, founder of The Hatchery, a venture collaboration organization. The workshop will feature discussions on what leadership really is, and where and how you learn to lead, among other topics.
While the Women in Consumer Technology “Connect Circles” group is completely free to join, the full group does have a membership fee of $125 per year. Similarly, the event will carry a $199 ticket price for members, and a $249 ticket price for non-members.
