Sony Electronics has announced new firmware updates for five of Sony’s current projector models:
- The VPL-HW65ES
- The VPL-HW45ES
- The VPL-VW5000ES
- The VPL-VW665ES
- The VPL-VW365ES
The updates for the VPL-VW5000, VPL-VW665 and VPL-VW365 add software features that Sony announced for the VPL-VW675 during CEDIA this past September.
Version 1.301 firmware for the VPL-HW65ES and VPL-HW45ES projectors adds support for the Sony unified control protocol (common protocol/ADCP), and Sony points out the Remote Start function is no longer available as part of Network Management (VPL-HW65ES) with the update. Additionally, Sony says the update fixes minor bugs.
Version 4.301 for the VPL-VW5000ES adds the HDR Contrast function to the picture menu (when viewing HDR content) to allow adjustment of the average screen brightness. Moreover, the firmware adds automatic selection of the BT.2020 color space when receiving wide color gamut (WCG) content, and it adds an HDR indicator in the information menu when HDR content is being received.
The last of the updates is Version 2.301 for the VPL-VW665ES/VW365ES projectors. Sony adds the HDR Contrast function to the picture menu (when viewing HDR content) to allow adjustment of the average screen brightness.
Sony also says the firmware update adds automatic selection of the BT. 2020 WCG when that content is available. It also adds an HDR indicator in the information Menu when HDR content is viewed.
