While individual loudspeakers that can stream a variety of music sources have become a hallmark of today’s wireless multiroom audio systems, sometimes customers still want to have more flexibility in their source selection or the desire to bring streaming capabilities to a pair of old favorite speakers.
Toward that end, compact wireless amplifiers and media players enable integrators and their customers to address this type of installation scenario or extension of a multiroom system to more rooms.
Along these lines, in conjunction with this week's CES 2018 in Las Vegas, RIVA Audio has announced the release of its Riva Central, a wireless amplifier system that gives users the ability to connect their existing audio devices into the Riva WAND (Wireless Audio Network Design) multiroom “+” ecosystem.
Loaded for Audio Options
With more inputs than comparable devices, according to the Fountain Valley, Calif., company, the Central component can connect to customers’ favorite devices like a turntable, USB memory stick, pair of bookshelf/in-wall speakers, or an external amplifier/receiver.
Central offers analog and optical digital inputs and outputs, USB input, and an optional 55-watt rms/channel into 4 ohms Class-D amplifier.
Users can also power on external amplifiers with the included 12-volt trigger and utilize the line-level variable subwoofer output for a true 2.1-channel system.
WAND Ecosystem is Expanded
“We designed Central to give you full access to the Riva WAND ecosystem without limitation to which speaker you listen to. Whether in-ceiling, in-wall or your own legendary speakers, this unique device centralizes the control of all your music,” says Rikki Farr, founder and chief creative officer of Riva Audio.

Riva Audio’s Central wireless amp will be shipping this spring, with a retail tag of $399, according to the company.
The Central component adds to the WAND Series’ compact Arena and full-range tabletop Festival speakers. Users can enjoy their favorite music from a multitude of connectivity options including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, AirPlay and DLNA and can stream seemingly content from Spotify Connect and other popular services.
Plus users can personalize their listening experience with the Riva WAND app, including the ability to make DSP adjustments for bass and treble.
