Custom integrators looking for another smart 4K TV option may soon be able to turn to an old name to consider.
Few specifics were addressed (like pricing, availability, etc.), but it seems NuVision is returning to the U.S. television market, per a press release the company sent out as part of its exhibiting at CES 2018 in Las Vegas this week.
The company says it “plans to re-enter the USA TV market, while also significantly expanding its mobile computing line-up. NuVision is a USA based company with its roots in high quality TVs for custom installation.”
NuVision had earned praise from integrators for its Lucidium LCD and LED flat-panel sets – its NVUFX5LS Super Slim Edge Lit LED LCD was a finalist in the Sustainable Lifestyle Product Innovation category at CEDIA Expo 2010 – but notified creditors in September 2011 that it was liquidating assets and shutting down.
After being acquired by TMAX Digital, NuVision made an appearance at CES 2013 in the Las Vegas Convention Center’s Central Hall, where it is appearing in 2018. Little information was provided about the company’s future back in 2013, but here’s what the Chino, Calif.-based company noted this week:
‘Multiple TV/CE Industry Veterans’ Lead Way
“The NuVision management team now includes multiple TV/CE industry veterans with a history of building billion-dollar businesses and trusted customer relationships,” according to the press release.
“With strong financial backing, the team has created all new product roadmaps and fresh brand, product and channel marketing plans. Moving forward, NuVision will partner with select quality retailers across the country, providing new opportunities with back-to-basics business practices.”
One of those industry veterans is Scott Ramirez, formerly a longtime executive at Toshiba America in the consumer electronics and display categories, and since 2017 now vice president, product marketing and development at NuVision (parent TMAX Digital, per Linkedin).
“We are focusing on building the right 4P's – Product, Pricing, Process, and People. This will allow us to maintain an aggressive, yet stable brand position, and a business positioned for managed long-term growth. The result is a unique opportunity for our partners, and a quality user experiences for our customers, making NuVision the smart choice.”
3 Smart TV Series Scheduled for 2018
The company plans to roll out three Smart TV series (two 4K, one 1080p) this year, in screen sizes ranging from 32 to 75 inches:
- Core Series – Full Featured 1080p Full HD, and 720p HD, Smart TV models, providing a compelling mix of quality and value. Core series models will be available in 32-, 40- and 50-inch screen sizes.
- Edge Series – High Quality 4K Ultra HD Smart TV models, providing stunning quality, high technology and strong value. Edge series models will be available in 43-, 50-, 55-, 65- and 75-inch screen sizes.
- Ultra Series – Premium 4K Ultra HD Smart TV Models, providing the highest quality, and newest technology, while maintaining clear value. Ultra series models will be available in 55-, 65- and 75-inch screen sizes.
There’s no word in the release about the technologies the new TV series are incorporating, so we’ll have to stay tuned for more info. As of now NuVision’s website does not highlight any TV products.
In the meantime, along with expanding its mobile computing (with five series slated for 2018 release) offerings, the “About NuVision” section indicated that more may be in store besides the re-entry into the U.S. TV market.
The company is “focusing on five key consumer product categories in North America, including mobile computing, television, audio, home control and accessories.” It could be interesting to see what’s on tap regarding the audio and home control mentions.
