In a time when electronics retail stores are declining and actually stumbling upon a RadioShack can cause genuine surprise, it takes a certain approach to make a retail store successful. Consumers may rather buy their cables and connectors online than in stores, but there is one place where they don't have that option: an airport.
Belkin, a cable supplier to the custom electronics industry, has opened its first ever retail store for direct-to-consumer cables, headphones and connectors in the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Rushed consumers can now stop in and buy a charger or other electronic necessity on their way to catch a flight.
The store, owned by the travel retailer Hudson Group, will carry the Belkin line of tablet and smartphone accessories like chargers and cables as well as screen protectors. It will also provide charging stations to travelers. The 150 square foot store will see record traffic, as airport officials predict 24.5 million passengers will pass through the airport this summer.
“With the opening of our first retail store at LAX, we are excited to introduce the world to the latest Belkin products in one place,” says Erik Burgers, director of sales, Belkin. “LAX is a major international travel hub, which made it the ideal destination for a Belkin store. As we continue to innovate in the accessories market, this outpost will be a great place for consumers to stock up on the latest chargers and other travel must-haves to power and protect all of their mobile devices.”
The store opened in May 2016 and marks a milestone for the company. Belkin has been a part of the Los Angeles business community for more than 30 years.
“Hudson Group has increased the amount of in-store space for electronics consistently each year for the past four years,” says John Bradley, merchandising, Hudson Group. “Consumer electronics accessories are a big seller across the board – especially charging and device protection products. With airport officials predicting a record of 24.5 million passengers passing through the airport this summer, it’s the perfect time to collaborate with Belkin to open a stand-alone storefront in one of the busiest terminals at LAX. We look forward to helping customers and being the traveler’s best friend.”
The store is open daily from 6 a.m. to 12 a.m.
