Finding qualified employees has long been a hot topic in the industry. Integrators have voiced this challenge time and time again – prompting CEDIA Business Xchange to focus on finding and keeping the best team. CEPro’s Julie Jacobson was there last week and shared some insights on how attitude can be a trump card when it comes to hiring and firing.
Mark Murphy, author of Hiring for Attitude, says more workers fail at their jobs not because of technical ineptitude but because of the wrong attitude. It's relatively easy to hire on skills, he says, but tougher to measure attitude in a traditional interview setting.

So now that you’re on the road to finding great employees with stellar attitudes, what happens after you hire them? For some, training will be necessary for them to get up to speed, and how you handle professional development for your team can really set the tone for your company in more ways than one.
According to the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) 2016 Employee Job Satisfaction and Engagement Report, only 25% of those surveyed were very satisfied with their organization’s commitment to professional development.
The last thing you want is to put forth the effort in finding and hiring the right employee only to have them leave. Getting them familiar with the industry and comfortable with all the hands-on skills that are required for success is essential, and the good news is there is a way to get employees prepared for work out in the field and it does not include bringing them to the jobsite before they’re ready. CEDIA Boot Camps can be valuable training resources to help get your employees up to speed, but don’t just take our word for it – hear first-hand from business owners and employees.
Top-rated instructors, hands-on training, and an opportunity not only to equip employees to perform quality work but also show that your company is invested in their success.
The next set of CEDIA Boot Camps — Basic Residential, Home Theater, and Advanced Networking — will be held at CEDIA HQ in June. Early bird savings are available until May 25, and companies who register multiple employees are eligible for additional savings. Visit cedia.net/training to learn more or email [email protected] if you’re looking for training recommendations for your employees.
