Funny how this poem I wrote in 2002 is still relevant today … with a few minor adjustments to account for 3D and streaming media.
‘Twas the eve of the new year
In a digital house,
An editor poised
With a keyboard and mouse
Dreamed of the day
When technology worked
Instead of driving
Consumers berserk.
PCs and TVs
Would all get along.
There’d be voice recognition
To summon a song.
Hollywood wouldn’t
Prosecute my mother
For sharing a movie
With me and my brother.

Would in fact,
Without separate boxes,
Deliver just that.
Netflix would stream
With all pixels intact
By way of free markets
Not federal act.
Analog wouldn’t
Be smushed like a pancake.
HDMI‘d always
Give us a handshake!
Vendors who put
Web TVs on the shelf
Wouldn’t suggest
You can do it yourself.
And underpaid techs,
When we call in distress,
Won’t swear that the problem
Is Windows OS.
Builders would all
Recommend structured wire,
Not Corian counters
For each new home buyer.
Installers would terminate
Cable with care.
They’d label and verify
Each twisted pair.
And when we consumers
In utter despair
Call for support…
They’d still be there.
Oh it would be
Such a wondrous year
If all CE vendors
Would advertise here.
Happy holidays and best wishes for a healthy, prosperous new year!
