Focal has made a name for itself in the audiophile and pro audio markets. Through the announcement of its 1000 series of architectural speakers, the French company is now looking to build an audience in the custom-installation industry.
Focal says that its new in-wall and in-ceiling speakers are designed to provide integrators with a choice of high performing and flexible audio products.
Outlining some of the benefits of the 1000 Series of products, the company says the speakers incorporate many of its proprietary technologies, including its Beryllium tweeters and “W” cones.
The company continues by saying the speakers are engineered to allow integrators to mix-and-match its traditional in-room, and the 1000 Series to assemble complete home theater, whole-house and stereo system designs.
Some of the features the new architectural speakers incorporate include drivers that allow for angle adjustments, and hardware that facilitates their installation, Focal incorporates its “Easy Quick Install” tool-less install system into the speakers.

Focal explains integrators can combine the architectural speakers with as many as six subwoofers, while using one channel of amplification (depending on room size and desired sound pressure levels). Speakon cables are provided to streamline the subwoofer installation process.
Moreover, the speakers’ grilles can be painted to help meet the aesthetic needs of homeowners and interior designers.
Focal 1000 Series Deep Dive
Headlining the newest product line from Focal is the Utopia in-wall loudspeakers.
Offering a choice of two products: the 1000 IWSUB UPTOPIA and the 1000 IWLCR UTOPIA, Focal emphasizes these speakers are engineered to deliver high levels of sound quality.
1000 IWLCR UTOPIA: This product incorporates the company’s Beryllium tweeter, along with four 6.5-inch W woofers, and a pair of 3-inch “M” profile W midrange drivers.
1000 IWSUB UTOPIA: Utilizing the company’s UTOPIA technology, this “closed” subwoofer employs three of Focal’s 6.5-inch “W” bass drivers.
Moving onto the rest of the product line, the 1000 Series also includes these models:
1000 IWLCR6: A three-way design that can be used for left, center, right or surround applications. The midrange/tweeter section can be tilted +/- 15 degrees, and it can be rotated 90 degrees for center-channel installations.
1000 IW6: This is a two-way design that can be used for surround home theater applications.
1000 ICLCR5: This is an angled in-ceiling speaker that sets the tweeter and midrange angle at 56 degrees, which Focal says supports home theater installs with no back walls. The midrange/tweeter section can also be adjusted +/-30 degrees.
1000 ICW6: This 1000 Series in-ceiling speaker can be used for a variety of audio scenarios. Focal points out the speaker incorporates its Easy Quick Install hardware.
1000 ICA6: An in-ceiling model with a 35-degree angle, and the company’s Easy Quick Install technology.
Focal adds the 1000 Series of products will be available in the U.S. by the end of February 2021.
