1SimpliSafe, a manufacturer of smart home security systems, has launched a new outdoor monitoring service called SimpliSafe Active Guard Outdoor Protection, which combines AI and professional security agents to identify and respond to potential threats before they reach the home.
The Boston-based company’s new service offers what the company describes as a “double layer of defense,” combining AI technology with human intervention. The system, which is built around the newly introduced Outdoor Security Camera Series 2, allows security agents to monitor outdoor activity, identify potential intruders using AI like facial recognition, and take action in less than 30 seconds. Actions can include communicating with intruders through two-way audio, activating a siren, or requesting police intervention if necessary.
Christian Cerda, CEO of SimpliSafe, emphasized the company’s goal of proactively preventing crime, stating, “SimpliSafe Active Guard Outdoor Protection uses advanced cloud and edge AI that’s tailor-made for home security and helps our own live agents identify threats and take action before trouble can enter your home.”
The service includes facial recognition capabilities, allowing the system to differentiate between familiar and unfamiliar individuals. If a person detected by the camera is not recognized, security agents can intervene and interact with the individual through audio or by triggering the camera’s 90dB siren and spotlight, the company says.
The Outdoor Security Camera Series 2, which supports the new service, features enhanced night vision, HD video quality, and a 140-degree field of view. It can capture details from up to 15 feet away, even in low light conditions. The camera is available for purchase at $199.99 through SimpliSafe’s website and can be installed by the customer or with professional assistance. Power options include wireless, wired, and solar panel setups.

SimpliSafe Active Guard Outdoor Protection is available through two subscription plans: the Pro plan at $49.99 per month, offering 24/7 indoor monitoring and overnight outdoor coverage, and the Pro Plus plan at $79.99 per month, providing continuous outdoor protection around the clock. Both plans are now accessible to U.S. customers through SimpliSafe’s website.
