Telecommunications giant Xfinity is leaning further into the smart home space by launching two new DIY security products – a door and window sensor and a motion sensor.
According to the company, the Xfinity Door and Window Sensor and the Xfinity Motion Sensor are customizable and can be installed, activated and connected over WiFi in minutes. The products join Xfinity’s line of home monitoring products, which currently includes indoor and outdoor cameras, a video doorbell, a smart thermostat, a touchscreen controller, an outlet controller and a wireless keypad.
The sensors can be customized through the Xfinity app, allowing customers to add and pair as many sensors as they need, turn monitoring on or off, and set rules for real-time alerts when sensors are triggered.
Motion sensors can detect the difference between people and pets, so animals won’t trigger a false alarm, the company says.
Xfinity markets these solutions as simple and affordable options for smart home and security technology. This just adds to the DIY market, which has been disruptive in the smart home technology space that has historically been exclusive to professional integrators
Xfinity also offers a Self Protection plan, which allows customers to leverage sensors, cameras and other smart home tech for $10 per month.
Customers can also sign up for Xfinity’s Pro Protection or Pro Protection Plus plan starting at $30 a month.
